In Memorial
Tim Budd, better known in Belize, by his stage name Barefoot Skinny, was a prolific musician, songwriter, and beloved figure in the Belizean music scene. He began performing at the age of four and had been crafting music for live shows, documentaries, and jingles since 1975. Over his career, he released three albums under the Barefoot Skinny moniker, blending rock, Caribbean, reggae, and smooth tropical instrumentals that captured a relaxed, island vibe and sold thousands of CDs. After settling in Ambergris Caye, Belize, around the turn of the millennium, he became a staple performer in San Pedro, often playing nightly at local bars and restaurants, as well as in Mexico at venues like Bad Boys Beach Bar in Playa del Carmen. Beyond performing, Budd volunteered as a high school music teacher for over 17 years at San Pedro High School, where he led the school band, mentored young musicians, and instilled a passion for music, earning him the reputation as a "musical genius" who could effortlessly play any instrument. He also owned The Malfunktion Junktion Bar, Grill & More, located in the Pine Mountain Ridge area of the Cayo District and supported local conservation efforts, including the Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic. Known for his sharp wit, generosity, and deep friendships Tim's life was marked by storytelling through song and a commitment to community. Tragically, after a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosed in 2025, he passed away on August 27, 2025. His legacy endures through the hearts he connected, the talents he nurtured, and the melodies that continue to echo in San Pedro and beyond.
